Whats your opinion on the best bait for channel catfish?
there's no best the fishes taste change like yours and mine but these have to rank towards the top of the list. chiken livers with and without garlic, shad cut and live, gill heads, night crawlers, shrimp and minnows cut and live. Stink baits also have a place on this list. I am sure that there are many more to add but these are the most common baits that I use.
thanks benji, i will keep that in mind tomorrow when i get some bait.
Every since i discovered Danny Kings Punchbait BLOOD flavor thats all i use, weve had many competitions with other baits and DKs wins every time!
Fresh cut shad has been my best bait for years.
Fresh cut shad works for myself the best. But for small lakes and ponds where shad isn't present it's allways an unknown. But liver has produced a lot of channels on those places where shad isn't present.
Frogs, river worms, frogs, shad gizzards, frogs, cut shad, frogs, frogs, frogs, frogs, frogs, frogs, frogs, frogs, ..........and oh yeah.........FROGS!
Did I remember to mention frogs??:cool2:
Where I fish here in southside VA, it is raw shrimp and cut bluegills or shellcrackers. I catch the bigger channels on the cut bait.
There is no "Best" channel bait. Channels will suck up just about anything they see. But youll probably want something that can help them get attracted to the bait. Like fish oils from cut bait or stink bait.
Chicken liver w/ garlic always works the best for me.
Fiddle worms, night crawlers, chicken liver, small creek minnows.
Cut bluegill, and garlic livers. Sometimes crawdads.
I have to go with catalpa worms as the best all around channel cat bait. Just cut the head off, and push a small stick through them till they are inside out. You will get action if there are channels in the area. Fish them on bottom, preferably with slip sinker. But I mostly jug/trotline fish, so for me the best channel cat bait is Zote soap. Its cheap, easy, and very productive.
