alright guys, what is your favorite buffalo carp bait?
Find the main nymphs or small crustaceans in your water, buffalo will usually be feeding on those. No other bait is really consistent, you can catch them occasionally, but nothing beats what's naturally in the water.
I have seen commercial fisherman rigging up buffalo lines and they would
use cotton sead meal cakes and cut them into 1/2 inch squares and put
them on a trotline with very small rubber bands about 4 " above the hook.
They would use these buffalo lines with jump boxes and it looked strange
seeing a line jumped out with no bait on the hooks. But they caught the
hands down the best buff bait IMO is soybean meal, put half a corn pop on the hook and pack your bait around it.
Right on Poppa; cottonseed is great for buffs or channels; I use cottonseed meal in boilies for trotline bait. From a previous post of mine on the 'Alt Methods' forum:
..IME, channels will go for just about any flour based boilie no matter how its scented, but the sucker family does also. Boilies scented with corn tend to catch carp; boilies scented with cottonseed and or spinach tend to catch buffalo and red horse suckers.
awsome thread man!! reps to ya bud
cottonseed is great for buffalo and corn for carps.
I have caught more buffalo on small crappie jigs than anything else. Granted, I have not fished for them very often or put the effort of the cotton seed baits that would work much more effectively, but when the conditions are right a crappie jig can be a lot of fun with a 10 or 12 lb buff on it.
