There are many good rods out there, I have 3 right now ( had 4 but sold the Bass Pro Musky rod). Warrior Cat makes a mighty fine rod (I have 1) as do custom builders ( I have 2 which the site does not allow to be named). I use them on the Mississippi and the Missouri.
I would look for a well made graphite or carbon rod rated XHeavy Fast action. These will be light weight - which is great on your wrist when bumping all day - and offer great sensitivity to feel the bottom. Reel choice on these rivers is another thing to look at . Personally I have 2 of the Okuma Komodos and love em. But there are again, good reels out there.
