OK,we havent had much rain here in oklahoma recently but I gottsta go fishing..A friend from work has been wanting to go and tommorrow night we had the chance to hook up so tommorrow is the day.
since my last post I had been fishing the elk river a few times.I live about 50 yards from the river and a buddy here lets me use his brothers dock.It kind of sucks only because they worry about the kids being on it and I cant take them on it.But i respect and understand their view.Especially in this day and age of litigious people.
Anyway,I have been fishing it and have not been doing too bad, last weekend I pulled in about 3 5-6# blues and a few nice channels.started around 5p.m. and got done at around 10p.m...well I sort of had no choice..I fell in  ......well I had 2 poles go off at the same time and as I was reeling and stepping back I stepped right into the middle square in the dock..lost my lucky hat and my headlamp..:eek:oooh: HEH,go figure.
So I am hoping that bernice will be as good to me.It will be my usual time get their around 6p.m. or so and hang until midnight.
My buddy hasnt been fishing in quite awhile.no poles, but in any event I told him I have plenty.and even if the cats arent biting very good I will hopefully be able to see him enjoy catching some sandies, even though they have been a bit slow there.
As far as where I live on the elk river, follow the river east from the 10 bridge which is close to grand lake casino,go up and around the bend which then points you north, and go up roughly 3/4 to 1 mile.
I dont own a boat but I usually see quite a few jugs floating between the bridge and the bend.
OH" and for the people who know I fell in when I caught the big blue I am holding.well, actually slipped into the water"AFTER" I lost my grip on the bridge girder."DUE TO THE FACT" that the water was lower than usual,AND"I was using a too small net with too small an opening.I HAVE REMEDIED" that problem and now have a net with a longer handle and a bigger mouth.
will report back on monday morning or so on how it went,
    Peace and Plenty,
    Kevin:go:

Hey Kevin, we might be out there tomorrow night also?
We went out tonight and hit a few holes between Adair and Langley and didn't do much good.
I told the kids, we'll try Bernice tomorrow and see what happens.

If nothing happens, we'll see ya out there?

Our last stop tonight was below the dam and it was beginning to lightning pretty good so we packed up and headed home.
I'm hoping to get a little rain out of it since it messed up our fishing tonight.

Well Kevin, what did I miss after we left?

If you say they started biting like crazy and you were catching them as fast as you could, I think I'm gonna cry?:too_sad:

Enjoyed meeting and talking with you last night.

    Ken,
No worrys, nothing at all to cry about..lol
About the only thing you missed was Jose cleaning the catfish,he learned quickly about their fins..got hit by them at least once, and he did an excellent job of fileting it.
Nothing at all after you guys left.we left about midnight.
It looks as if it is going to rain tonight.getting some sprinkles here right now.hopefully for our sake we will get maybe an inch, although we could use a few feet:0a20: ...
I will probably stick around the river here for a few weeks more.
Hope you guys have some luck when you go back out.And it was nice meeting you and your family also..
    Peace and plenty,
    Kevin

    Same here.
I think Jose had a good time though?

I went out again last night.
The fish were biting great, they would hit your line about as fast as you could get it in then water and catching them just about as quick. Once I had enough bait, I started for the cats and ended up catching only one small one.
The wind had started picking up about the time I got there (around 2:30 pm) and I was hoping it would calm down a little after sunset, but it didn't.
I packed up around 10 pm, the cats were biting, but with the wind and the rough water it was hard to tell what was going on.

I think I'm going to try it a couple hours tonight and see if I do any good?

There was another guy there that had caught a nice batch of Crappie, but they were biting pretty slow. I think I grab a few minnows tonight and see if I can catch a few?

We'll proably see ya around some time?

That does sound good, but I have to work tonight and my daughter has to be at work early in the mourning, so I think I'm going to have to pass tonight.

I was at Bernice Thursday around 8:30 am and fished until 5:30 am Friday and all I caught were babies. They were biting great, just no size to them.
I had the first one about twenty minutes after I started and thought it was going to be a good day?
They were biting so light, it was hard to tell when you had a bite? I think they were doing more sucking then biting?
I did have one good bite on cut perch, but he only hit it once. When I decided to bring it in and check the bait, it look like it had been sucked on?

A guy I work with goes there and fish for crappie and bass and he was telling the other night he was out there and helped a guy land a 15 pound blue.
I know there are some big ones out there, just have to find them?

With this being a holiday weekend, I think we'll just stay home?

    HMMMMM...
Sounds like it is getting a bit better at bernice.I fished elk river last weekend for about 6 hours and only caught a channel and a blue, both nice fish, but that was all.
Not sure if I will go to bernice or not considering as you said Ken,it is a holiday.coming home from work tonight,SAT.there were quite a few boats on the river. When you say they were biting good do you mean the bass or the cats?
I may just get a wild hair and decide to head out there.Would probably have to wait out all the people that will probably be there to get a good spot on the bridge though.
I will know early in the morning if I will go or not,so will keep ya posted.
Ray do you do very good under sailboat? And yes,it would be nice to meet you as well.Ken is an allright guy as well.Quite the fishermen he is..He definetly puts in the time to find them."PROPS" Ken..:0a23:
    Will holler in the morning.
    peace and Plenty,
    Kevin

    I'm talking about the cats.
There were a couple guys trying for bass and crappie and I think they each caught a few small crappie and each one caught one big enough to keep.

If I had to guess, i'd say I probably caught around 100 of them little bugers (baby cats), but they were only 8 - 10 inches or so.
They would bite good for 30 minutes or so, then they would slack off for 30 - 40 minutes.
You know where we like to fish, off the right of the dock?
This time they were a little to the left, in between the last spot and the next to the last spot, they were right in the middle.
