What test pound line should I use, braid or mono. And what is the typical rig to use.

I fish in MN and up here we fish pike all the time.
I have lost my fair share due to not having the correct rigging, especially when I am fishing for bass or walleye and a "Northern" hits my line.
What you use is up to you as far as braided or mono and I would use at least a 12 lb. or better with a steel leader as they will snap even 30-50 lb. braided line like butter. Their teeth are razor sharp and can also turn on you like a snake and rip your arm open quicker than you can blink.:eek:oooh:
I hope you have fun, they are a good fighter when they realize they are going to shore.

I caught a 38", 13 1/2 lb Northern Pike in 1986. I was using an 9' Master Rod, an Daiwa spinning reel, steel leader & smelts for bait. I think the 30lb test line was mono, I don't remember. I hope that this helps you prepare for your big fight.
