    Yea, it's winter ;)

Name songs that start out & you just know there are going to be good from the 1st 5 words or less.

    Such As:

"On a dark desert highway".......... (Hotel California by the Eagles) :rock-big:

Dang mellon, Cats in the Cradle is one of the best ever and so is Jim Croce but..........................Harry Chapin is the owner of that there tune.

Like your topic though, How about one from David Allen Coe: I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison....

Or the Beatles: Blackbird singin in the dead of night

How bout song writers? My top three would be,

    1 Kris Kristofferson
    2 Harry Chapin
    3 Tom Petty

sal menthoned Cheech & Chongs Earache My Eye.There must be a different version of it.I always though it started out:'My mama talkin' to me ,tryin' to tell me how to live.' I used to be a huge C/C fan but cant remember what album it was from.

    redneckdrum.....

I suppose youre right! I was quoting the first 4 words of the sketch, not the song itself, but you are right, Cheech singing is the first thing heard.

And I heard it on the Doctor Demento Best of the 1970s album. Folks would never have let me buy cheech and chong. lol.

    eggman,

I know that Chapin did "Cats in the cradle", but I found several web sites that credit it to Croce. Did Croce originally write the song? Chapin died in a car accident in '81, when did Croce die? Did Croce perform it after Chapin's death I wonder?

It's funny, I can find lots of good songs w/ kick but lyrics within 6 words, but to find 5 or less is hard!
