Authorities have identified a Kanawha County man who disappeared after the boat he was on was hit by a barge.

Charleston police Sergeant Aaron James says John Jones of Elkview was one of three people on the boat when the accident occurred. It happened Tuesday night on the Kanawha River near Daniel Boone Park in Charleston.

The boat's owner, Peter Wenger, and an unidentified woman swam to shore. James says Wenger and the woman told authorities they were floating on the river and at the last minute, realized the barge was coming toward them. They jumped but don't know where Lewis went.

Firefighters say none of the boaters were wearing life vests.

The incident is still under investigation. [/FONT]
