There have been a few times I have run out of bait when the bait shop is closed. Usually fishing on a gravel bar. Something that I noticed when shining my light into the shallow water was all of the baitfish crayfish and frogs in the water. So, me and my friend took a sain and one of us walked on shore and one of us walked out in the water up along the gravel bar about 100 ft and we pulled up enough bait to last us the most of 2 days. Keep a sain with u and give it a try if u dont feel like driving all the way to your bait pond to get bait.

You are correct, and this is why catfish will feed in shallow water at night.

Any of us that have cast nets love em and got them for that very reason! The bait from the water which you fish is usually better bait too!

I always seine my own bait it seems like the catfish can tell if its from the bait shop.
