    Very carfully

1, put your thumb on the spool
2, disengage spool (there is normily a button or switch)
3, cast, make sure to control the spool with your thumb when your line hits the watter or youll get a back lash
4, re engage spool and enjoy fishing.

it takes a while to get the hang of but once you do its easy, try practicing in your back yard.

Adjust your brake before casting. Most reels come with instructions on how to set the brake, because it seems to vary from reel to reel.

Eric do you own a biatcasting reel now or just looking to buy one? Let us know what model and maybe we can help on the adjustments more.

The only way to learn is trial and error, takes practice but once you learn you will not want to use anything else. I couldn't imagine using nothing but baitcasters now.
