What do you mean by carving bait?

I tried my hqand at carving some decoys, in an attempt to emmulate my grandfather, but failed. Never tried carving a crank bait though. A lot of fakes are made that way of antique lures and people loose big money to the fakes. So if you collect old wood lures BEWARE of the fakes.

Why not? If I had the skill and patience to carve something that might catch fish I would try it out. It would have to be great to catch fish on something you made. Like tieing your own flies and catching fish with them. That is a great feeling.

I have carved 2 crank baits out of cedar. one is like a rapala minnow and the other one is like a lazy ike. I hand painted them and have caught fish on both of them. I enjoy taking something i crafted and catching a fish with it.
