What is your bait of choice for river fishing? My choice bait and what I catch 95% of my cats on is FRESH cut shad heads. My second bait of choice is what I call redfins. Real name is redhorse I believe.

Any Cut Head, The Bigger the Cut Head, the better ! My all time Favorite bait on the river is a large cut Sucker head, That is what I caught my PB on too.

Live gizzard shad (for flatheads) down here.

    Cut shad for everything else.

I think flatheads are opportunistic just as much as being predators. They will take any fish live or dead/cut if happened upon. Sound/vibrations from a live fish might be an advantage in certain situations just as increased scent from a large bloody/oily cutbait might work better in others. Both live and cut will work in any situation so fish them with confidence. I prefer cut shad.
