Does anyone know where I can purchase a bait needle or how to make one for loading a hair rig?
Read somewhere, maybe here, about a guy making one from a bicycle spoke.
Sharpen one end and hammer the other end flat and drill a small hole.
Now if I can just get the neighbor kid... just kidding.
What do you mean by bait needle?
Here are needles and drills, everything you could possibly need for a hair rig
I'm not sure how the needle is supposed to work but maybe a turkey injector will work. Just a thought.
You can purchase bait needles from Cabelas or Basspro's Saltwater catalogs.:smile2:
I just take a large sewing needle with a large enough eye and cut a segment out of the eye with a Dremel cut off wheel.
what is the purpose of the bait needle? the only thing i can think of that is compared to a bait needle is a worm threader?
What is Bait Needle?
It's a needle specifiaclly made to thread doughballs , corn onto a hair rig setup. Used mostly for catching carp. Some of the carp websites show what a hair rig looks like but not how to make a bait needle or wher to get one. Thanks to all the contributors for ideas on making one..also didn't realize cabellas salt water had one. I only have the cabella freshwater catalog. Now I know.. Once again many thanks
Looked at KAGS reply called my wife over she said hey..you can get that at any craft shop or Walmart( Rug Hook).Thx
I have to admit, this is the first time I have ever heard of a bait needle.
For those of you that asked ;a bait needle is very common in saltwater fishing and essentially as you can imagine ,it is a very long needle with an eye so that you can thread a leader through the bait fish and then tie it to a hook. When I drift fish I thread blueback herring on my hook but have found a bait needle makes a neater rig.SOmetimes they are called rigging needles and if you go to page 156 of the current OFFSHORE ANGLER catalog you can see them.
Does Offshore Angler have a online catalog?
