LakeNomranBlues wanted me to post a poll concerning flatheads and what the big ones come on.

We are both curious as to what flatheads prefer in lakes and rivers around the country. Lots of folks say live bait, but locally many of us have noticed that the lake flatheads will take cut bait before live bait.

My PB (40lbs) was caught on a live chub. That being said, a 52 pounder was caught here last night on cut bait. Location seems to be more important than bait it seems.

My PB was a 43# fLat caught on a huge live bluegill in the colorado river. But, I have used live carp here in the Ohio river and I hooked the biggest flat I could imagine but didnt get him in the boat. My opinion you can and will catch flathead on cut bait but, if you are fishing strickly for flatheads. I say hands down live bait is better then cut bait. I use live bluegill or carp for flats and skipjack for blues.

I've caught a quite a few flatheads on stomped bluegill. We accidentally found this out one night when one fell out of the bait bucket and got stepped on. We found it later that night and decided to throw it out and almost immediately got hit. Ever since we've been putting some out on about every trip. I still think that to consistently catch the larger ones live bait is the way to go, but I caught my largest and hooked my largest on cut bait.
