What is a good bait for some big blue cats this time of year? In the Ohio river.

    Adam,
Id say shad used cut or whole will get you some good blues. My experience this winter has been that small whole shad has worked as well as cut small pieces. Seems this time of year, the smaller the portion the better. Skipjacks also work good this time of year if you have access to them. I usually cut my skips into steaks about one inch wide. Skips and bigger Shad can be fileted and used that way also. You just have to experiment some to figure out what they want at a particular time. They are alot like us, they dont the same thing, fixed the same way everyday. rspd507
