Finally got a call from the boat shop on my boat, not good boys not good.
It seems the compression in all three cyl. are only 60, the motor is shot. They could rebuild it for a grand but I only paid $1200.00 for her. The motor is a Johnson 70 hp with power tilt and trim. They have a johnson 48 Hp that they will sell and install for $500.00 with no power tilt or trim. This also includes a new water pump. I do not know what to do, does this sound like a good deal?

Yeah thats what I wanna do..I got a 40 but the only reason my dad had a 40 on the boat was because we used to pull a trawl with it..I can probably drop down to a 25..I got a qoute on a brand spanking new 4-stroke 25 with all the bells and whistles for 3200..Hopefully this coming spring I'll be able to jump on that..Sorry to hear about your motor trouble Mr. Don..Hope you get it back in the water soon..

Did they tell you what was wrong? Low compression doesnt neccesarily mean the motor is shot...I would have ask alot more questions.

Thats cool that he is going to help. I woulnt want to go down in hp. I also wouldnt want to do without power tilt and trim. Besides the chance of destroying props, power trim provides so much better performance. Hats off to digger.
