I stay away from using crappies.
    1. They are not lively, the wimps of the sunfish family.
    2. Their mouths are thin, hence the nickname "papermouths" and will easily come off you hook if you are distance casting.

Stick the good ole fashion bluegill.

lots of people on here like using crappies.

But I agree with you on that they are not as lively as other sunfish.

But the paper thin mouths sould not be an issue if you hook them in the back

Hook them in the back, I've caught many fish with them(where its legal, ex. OH) and even done good with whole dead ones(4-6" & bigger & smaller) trolling them. Flatties love them!!!:big_smile:

If you catch them from the river they are more lively than a lake crappie.

like every one else has said, hook them through the back,it helps them be more lively, and in my opinion they can move around more.
