I have used bacon to catch bluegill but not catfish. Has anybody here used it to catch catfish? If so did you add anything to it?

I've used both bacon and salt pork successfully for catfish; nothing added to them. I've also used chitlings successfully, but I added scents such as garlic, anise, shrimp, etc.

Bacon works well fishing under commorant roosts. It's not so much the scent as it is the plop of a big glob of white stuff hitting the water. It's a reaction strike from big fish and little fish alike.

I'm with 45, mine never would make it to the water...:smile2: But I've heard of folks catching fish with it.

Bobby, if a big gob of white stuff hitting the water is the secret, you might want to try using chitlings. They're not only lots cheaper than bacon, but they're all white (no brown streaks), and they stay on the hook forever.

There was a big thread in the past about bacon for bait. Seems it works well for alot of folks but as others have stated before, its hard for the bacon to make it out of the kitchen. I may......try some this year and if theres some left I might fish with it as well.

I have never used bacon, it is an interesting concept. I would hate to see it go to wasted, maybe if I had some go bad it would be ok
