While bank fishing for channels cats/and other cats. mainly using dip-bait and large shiners what do you all use for weight? more around 1 to 2 OZ or more or do you use less weight.

Also is golden shiners good to use for bait for channel catfish

While im bluegill/crappie fishing, i end up catching a lot of them shiners, and not sure if they are good for catfish,If they are, is it best to use them alive or cut them up?

Heck yeah they'll hit shiners. Especially the wild variety you're catching--better than the ones from a bait shop. How big are these shiners? It's according to the size fish you're targeting whether not to cut them up. I'd try fishing some whole both weighted on bottom and fishing them live under a float or balloon. But beware of using a float--largemouth bass love wild shiners, too. Fishing on bottom just add enough weight to keep the shiner from swimming into a rock or snag. Probably at least an ounce or two if it's a big shiner. If I cut the shiner up, I'd fish the head, on a hook by itself with some guts hanging. Then cut the remainder in half crosswise discarding the tail.

I use 2 ounces and above if I'm not float fishing. I like allot of weight to keep big baits from pulling it around. Use about a foot of leader so they have some movement but you can still keep tension on the line and detect small bites.
