I'm trying to figure out what kind of set up I need for cats (reel, line, rod) Don't want to go to heavy and only catch 5-10 lbs cat, but not to lite and catch 10-25 lbs cats. My average big cats (channels and few flatheads) run in the 8-12 lbs range, with averge being 3-6 lbs. Fishing the Wabash river, Missinawa and Salomone lakes. What can I expect as a top end big cat, not a record just an above averge big cat ? And an average sized cat ? -thanks

My current set up is a 6'6" med-hvy Ugly Stik with a zebco 733 hawg with 20# Berkley Big Game line.

Yes! Thats where I do all of my fishing. There are also a lot of logjams that you can fish from the bank.

RiverScum & I fish the bash every once in awhile. 20# is avg for us but have pulled 40+lbs out of there also. My rig set-up is 8ft med/hvy rod shakespear 30lc {line counter} and 40 lb line. I like the line counter reels cause they have a extension off the frame body so I dont have to put reel down on the ground.
