I was out night fishing Saturday night on the Ohio. At around 2-3am, I kept spotting something huge on my fish finder that kept hanging around under the boat. I dropped my lines over the side (with bluegill for bait), but nothing. I eventually casted the lines back out like I normally do and kicked back to relax. A few minutes later, WHAM!!! I feel this hard impact and water sprays strait up from the back of the boat!!! I'm pretty sure it attacked the motor (which was lifted up and barely touching the water). No, I'm not telling a "Fish Story" here, this really did happen!! Whatever it was, it was big and didn't like my boat. lol... I quickly decided it was time to find a new spot down river. I've been trying to run down in my mind what it could have been without letting my imagination get the best of me. Maybe a large beaver? I did see a few beaver out there that night and I've had them get kinda close and splash, but never seen one attack a boat motor before. Maybe a beaver with brain damage caused by too many chemicals in the water? lol... I don't know, but it certainly made me nervous enough to move. It wasn't a log or anything bumping the boat (there was barely any current at all and the water was free of floating objects). Whatever it was, it hit hard and it hit on purpose!!! ?????????????

Are you sure it actually attacked the motor? Beavers do that tail smack on the water that is super loud and sends water everywhere. They do it a lot when they think something is in their area.

Bull shark?? Hey, it's possible. They're in our rivers. That's a fact. And old Jeremy wade tagged one with a radio transmitter and monitered it. That smart-azz fish hovered under fishing boats waiting for them to catch something, so he could try to steal it on the way in. Maybe it finally got mad because you weren't doing your part by catching fish. LMAO

LMAO!!! No drugs or 12 beers here gentlemen!! Strongest thing I have when I'm out on the river is coffee. It very well could have been a beaver (and that's more along the lines of what I'm thinking). Maybe he swam into the motor by accident or something, but it felt like it was on purpose to me. There was some pretty hard contact there none the less. It was certainly enough to make me move spots real quickly. lol... Maybe a beaver had little ones close by and was trying to get rid of me. I don't know. What I do know is that I couldn't wait to get out of that spot saturday night. Not a "Fish Story", no drugs or beers involved, just a fact- It happend. If it was a beaver, he was an aggressive little creep!! lol... If it was a fish and he stays in that area, we will just have to see what happens this weekend (weather permitting). I'm breaking out my "Big Gun" and heading back out there. I've got a salt water rod ready with a Penn 209 reel, 150lb braided line, 200lb steel leader and #14 circular shark hook ready to rock. lol....

There is gar and sturgeon in the Ohio as far as I know. They both get fairly large.
thats exactly what i was thinking,i dont think it was a beaver myself i dont think they would get that close to your boat and id think you would hear him commin cause if he knew you were there that tail would be making all kinds of noise on the water.id put my money on a gar or sturgeon

Might of been a bull shark i know it sounds weird but, there have been several bull shark caught in the mississipi river all the way up tennessee border of kentucky so not impossible unlikely but, not impossible. Bull shark have the ability to adapt to fresh water unlike other sharks. Go to Discovery.com and check it out.

Bobby ,I learned a long time ago that a encounter with a large beaver at night can be very frightning..You have to watch out or a large beaver can and will grab your pole and give it such a hard jerk that it could be dangerous to say the very least.
You did the right thing by moving out of that area because they have been known to stalk many a poor boy..Bee:cowboy:

Like its already been said when they become excited those large tails will violently flop so we all need to be aware of this possible situation..should it occur when we are fishing on the river...Bee
