I watched the show. He caught a flathead by running a crank bait through a wintering hole flatheads were using. I saw them do the same thing with jigs a couple of years ago. I personally question the ethics of catching flatheads at that time of the year. I wonder of the fish struck the lure or was just snagged by the treble hook? I personally am against hogging for flatheads during the summer also but that's just me.

my dad and i use to troll for largemouth at santee back in the early 80s and we never caught any flatheads but we sure caught alot of blues and channels. sometimes we would hit a hole and you catch them on every passthrough. i tell you if you catch a 20-30lb blue trolling it can put alot of stress on the old bass rod. i guess thats why i love to catfish now.we used rebel wee r's ice blue in color.

i know a guy that caught a 40- pounder with a spinnerbait during the daytime. i guess anything is possible.
I have heard numerous Bassfisherman at a lake near me claim to have pulled flatties out of a rocky cliff area by the dam. I have never witnessed it and was told by the staff at the marina. The staff I have known for a while and have never steered me wrong so I take it as truth. Good idea with a 1oz jig and some fresh bait. I may have to give it a try....Urg.. That would be almost like bass fishing...LOL

Ive caught 3 catfish on lures in my 15+ years of fishing. Catch 2 channel cats amazingly on the same day same lure. Both were 12 inchers catch on a roaster tail that I was trolling in a small lake by my house for small bass and crappie. Caught both channels within minutes of each and have never caught any every again like that. Other one was a 14 inches blue. Threw out a spoon in the middle of a sandbass school, caught several sandbass then about 10 minutes later they stopped so I let it hit the bottom to try somthing different and the cat hit it. Imidately I told my dad it wasnt a sandbass, and sure enough it was about a 14 inch bluecat.

My brother once caught a 9ish pound flathead on a plastic worm while bass fishing in some rocks. Other than that, I dont know many people in my area(Texas) that have ever caught cats on lures, and definitly not on purpose.

Ive caught channels on crankbaits before but never caught any flatheads on lures. However I did witness a walleye fisherman catch about a 30lb flathead on a 2oz jigging spoon about 10 years ago.

I caught a 16 pound flathead on a DD22 crankbait at the face of the dam on the river I fish . I had read about using them in In-fish, It worked the first night I tried it.

My wife and I use large deep divers to troll a short area below Truman Dam. We start about the swinging bridge in Warsaw and make a pass up to the bouys or the "old" channel, turn around and do it again, usually catch a couple of good ones. The most productive lure I have used was called a "Loud Mouth." White seems to work better than chartruese. The only problem we have encountered is the lure needs to stay within 3' of the bottom for the bigger fish. Rarely do we catch catfish with the lure more than 8' off the bottom. Catch everything else though. Down riggers will solve the problem. My down rigger consists of "commercial" clips a 5/16ths rope from Wal-Mart and a Vienna sausage can filled with lead with a "LARGE" swivel attached. O.K. so the wife has to pull the can up by hand because it isn't powered, but she keeps her strength built up by hauling in big fish.

i watched the infisheman show that he was talking about. they were fishing deep holes around brush in the mississippi. he was using big swimbaits but since the fish arent as active in the winter you had to put your bait right in front of them to get them to bite. i think i might try to do this.:)

cacthing flatheads on lures is more than possiable, its done all summer long around here, flathead fisher man just need to be alittle more open mined and remove the myth that flatheads will eat olny live bait,it couldnt be any further from the truth.you can do better jiggin for them than you can live baiting them anyday of the week, and its way more fun
