Who has won something in either the lottery or a contest? If you did win something, was it something you wanted, needed or actually used? Did it collect dust or get sold for something more worthwhile?
I have never won anything, aside from a $10 scratch-off or so. Not even a 20 ounce Coke from the top of the cap. :sad2:
Yes Jen I won several little things through my life time and some good and some as you say collects dust.
The best thing I have ever won, Besides my wife's hand in marrage:big_smile: ) Was a fishing trip given away right here on BOC. With Richard Simms. I really enjoyed that day for sure.
Yep, I won a transducer protector here on the BOC. I also got talked into going to bingo with my wife a couple of times and won there too. I won a country ham at a raffle once, but two other guys claimed we were splitting, so I had to have it sliced up and gave them their part. I played the pick 3 on the Tennessee lottery the first day and won that. I'm not much of a gambler and I usually quit while I'm ahead. Never played the lottery again.
I've gone to bingo a few times...it's fun once the regulars stop complaining that you are in their seat, or Trudy sits there, and if you can handle the smoke. All I've ever done is lost money there, but it is fun.
I won a set of tires when I was a kid. Then there were a few nickel/dime lottery tickets. Then the bestest of all was/is my lady's hand. I guess that doesn't really qualify because there wasn't any contest...
_______________ The next time you feel like complaining remember: Your garbage disposal probably eats better than thirty percent of the people in this world.
I don't win much of anything most of the time but I did win the Magicbait contest on the BOC not long ago and was very glad to have won that prize. I use it as much as possible until it is all gone and I guess I'll go get more.
That was a GREAT prize other than that I don't win many things.
The one that sticks out the most was at a church picnic. I was around 9-10 years old and they had a gambling table. You pick a number and each number has 1-8 which would multiply your bet if you won. Spin the wheel and it stops on a number. I got 5bucks from mom and turned it into $65. I was so happy I ran back and mom took my money.:sad2:
I've had pretty good luck winning door prizes at different events.
The one that sticks out most in my mind was about 10 years ago. We were at a Christmas party put on by a friends employer. Well when the drawing time came my name was drawn & I had won a box of candy that was designed to look like a book. Well, needless to say, I was pretty disappointed until I opened it and in addition to the candy I found a $50 bill!
I won a thousand dollars the night of my highscool graduation lockin. I was definitely excited, I had never won anything before that and unfortunately haven't won anything since.
I have never won anything that equates to a monetery value, but I have won somethings worth alot more and that would be all the friends I have, especially all the ones on the BOC.
They was having a catfish tournament at a pay lake me and my dad went to well I got a blue cat about 5 1/2 pounds, and my dad caught one right after that about 36 pound and me and him took the small and large jackpot with the 2 fish we caught.
The only thing I ever won was here on BOC. I won a Keel Shield! I keep my boat in my dock and it wasn't handy to install it so I returned it and BOC gave it away again.
I've won something 4 times, but the best one was an A-500 shotgun. One of my close friends asked me to buy a chance, I told him no, then finally I asked how many he had and he said he had 3 left, so I took the one in the middle and told him it was going to win. The next day he showed up with it and told me I sucked cause it won. I checked it out and told him he could have it, he was tickled to death, he was a gun collector. He was hunting for a certain shotgun for me when he lost control of his motorcycle and left us here. His brother gave me $450 check for it, because he said it was his brothers favorite gun due to I gave it to him. He said he couldn't find the one I wanted and would not leave with out me taking the check. I tried and tried to get him to not pay me but it is the only way he would have it.
I won a keel shield here on the BOC about the only thing I ever won worth anything and now that the weather is getting nice and warm I will get in touch with Delta Lover and see when he wants to get toghter and put his and mine on lol.
I have never won anything good. One of these days I'm hoping to win a BOC give away. If that happens then I'll be sure to love my prize. Yuo can never have enough fishing gear.
ive won all sorts of things
won 3 contests here on the BOC netting me a nice used penn reel
some suffix line and some DannyKings punch bait
all these were awesome wins.
ive won a few small scratch off tickets
one of the most disapointing wins was when my wife and i first met we
went to her works christmas party and we were entered into a drawing and left before the announcement of the winners.
yeah i won the 24 inch color tv and wasnt there to claim it so they gave it to someone else:crazy: .
i guess i really didnt lose too much cause we left early for................
lets just say we were really in love back then:big_smile:
I won a few fishing derbies before for small cash.
I won a few times in Vegas and the casinos in Ca, including about 22,000 for the year of 2002 total.
I won in one derby we had in the BOC.
Also in 1996 I almost became a millionaire but was one number off. I got 5 out of 6 numbers with the missing number only being 2 away. I got 1300 for that instead of the 7 million that night.
Needless to say I have not gambled much in years nor play the lottery as much. But I still love to partake in fishing derbies.
I got an "Our Lady of Guadalupe" throw pillow at a christmas family giveaway.
I am not from mexico... nor is anyone else in the famiyl
I am not catholic.... again, no is anyone else in the family.
I am having a garage sale though real soon, if that explains my attitude toward said pillow.
I mean... in the best of intentions, what am I gonna do? Put my butt on the virgin Mary's embroidered icon? Isnt there a special level of hell for people who do that?
And if I display it, folks will think Im catholic and all the chotchkis that go along with being catholic will begin rolling in... and I dont need reeds or crucifixes or beads or rosaries or the picture of the lil boy facing left with his hands together or the girl facing right or the old man with his head slumped into his hands or the "footprints" thing or plastic jesus, or the mary air fresheners or the little droppers of holy water... It doesnt go well with Ukrainian folk art that I have at home anyhow. It WAY opens a pandora's box for me. Im happy I got something but feel very uncomfortable with a pillow like that.
Good thread.
Jen, I am a winner, you know how I know this, I wake up every morning looking forward to what is instore for me that day. You know when you can see the blessing that are around you, that's when you know that you are a winner. Yes I have won a couple of BOC contest, but life is the biggest contest of all. I look at my children and see the things that I thought were important in life, and seeing them makeing the right dission, that makes me proud of life. So, I am a Winner by Gods Grace.
I said I was a loser, but after thinking about it I have won things. I won a 1/5 of Makers Mark in a golf scramble and yes I did love my gift. It didn't have time to collect dust. The same scramble the following year I won a Brita water filter. I didn't have a Brita so I didn't like it. I have won several hands of Texas Holdem. Ed McMahon keeps telling me that I won a bunch of $$ from some sweepstakes, but I still haven't recieved it. And I probably would say that I won the end results of my divorce.
If It Wasnt For Bad Luck I Wouldnt Have Any Luck At All
