Never tried mice for cats, no pun intended, but they are dynamite on the big Brown trout when they are spawning in the fall.:secret: Just hook them in the scruff of the neck with a 1/0 short shank hook and toss them in the water. No need to cast them as they will swim away from you/shore in 4 wheel drive. Drives the Browns nuts with viscious muskie like strikes. Really messes with the flyfishermen's brain too! While they are concerned with tippet size and matching the hatch, we show up with med/heavy cat tackle, leather gloves, and a mailbox. They give us strange looks till the action explodes! FYI We use glue traps along fencerows and check them frequently. Remove mice with gloved hand and put them in a mailbox, on end cause they jump. Put all-grain and 1/2 an apple in with them till you get enough to head out after the big browns. Apple is used instead of water cause they will spill water and get wet & die of hypothermia pretty quick at thanksgiving time of year, brrr. We have kept them for 2 weeks with no problem. Bait up with leather gloves to avoid getting bit, and teach the elitist longliners how to really catch Big Brown trout! We laughed our butts off till the mice were gone, and landed 10 fish with 14 mice in a little over an hour. The fish were weighed by a stunned warden that was checking up on all the excitement. They weighed 8.5 - 24#. Kept 3 fish that swallowed it, 9,11, and 13 lbs. Best thing was the 6 catch and release pins we got in the mail 6 weeks later with that wardens help.:Happy:That was 15 yrs. ago below Norfork dam with my two boys. A fond "Catching" memory of ours. But for catfish, I would stick with skipjack and leave the gloves at the house.
