Went out pike fishing a few weeks ago with a couple of my friends my bud and I were on the road by 3:30 a.m at our other buddies by 4:30 a.m then 2 more hours to the winnipeg river .Then another hour boat ride up the river and we pull into the first bay and my one friend catches three 34"-37" pike bang bang bang .....not too bad of a start to the day I'm feeling pretty good about my shot at a big pike get ready to make another cast when WHAM!!!!! Felt like someone up and smacked me in the back of my head I feel back and this is what I found.....

I made up a few new words and said to my friends "ok guys just push it through and pinch the barb" so after ten minutes of pushing with no luck and 5 mins of trying to cut the hook off we decide to fly down river to a fishing lodge my friend used to guide at. So after locating a good pair of sidecutters I was ready to fish again :D

Then after a full day of fishing with a hook in my head we "rushed" to the emergency room in a small town on the way home..... the look on the nurses face when she asked me what time I go hooked and I told her 9 a.m (It was 10:30p.m by then :D ) They let my friend take pics of them taking the hook out so if you have a weak stomach don't look ;) :D

I was wondering if anyone else had something similar to this happen and kept right on fishing?

Now that is what I call dedication!!!! You will let nothing come between you and your prize. Do you share the same enthusiasm when catfishing :D ???

My brother had his ear pierced by a hook while fishing at a small pond a few years ago. We were able to cut the hook and remove it at the pond so we kept fishing. The guy who hooked my brother broke his rod and lost his reel when he hooked him.

Ouch an ear peircing would hurt too!! My buddy who hooked me is a rookie fisherman and had never cast a baitcasting reel before he felt awful and didn't catch a pike over 30" that day.

Dang! Now I see how yall do thing up there in Canada, lol. Awesome interesting post, glad you had the camera with you. The story alone wouldn't have done it justice. I have been lucky so far in my life as far as getting hooked goes and I sure hope it stays that way. Although, I guess if you're gonna do it, do it right!

Dang, TrophyHunter, I know it hurt but I got a LOL a little cause its die hard.
True fisherman. Aint no whining coming for you. You might be a red neck. LOL.
Nice fish two. Looks like you had a good time despite the hook in head.
    Glad you put that up

I've had a hat pulled off my head before and stuck one in my hand. Had catfish fins stick through my foot once and hand. Not lately.

Trophyhunter you are a very dedicated fisherman for sure and very nice fish you went on to catch that day.I saw a father hook his son in the arm with a 7/0 hook. The boy was only 8 and he didnt say a word and his dad yanked it a couple times before he turned around to see the hook in the boys arm boy didnt cry nothing and it was sunk in his arm deep.

I've been fishing at least 48 years and I've never had a hook stuck in me up the barbs so I guess I been lucky.I had a guy walk up to me at the spillway and ask if I had any side cutters and when I said yes he turned his to the left and pointed at his right ear and the had a jig sticking in his ear lobe.It looked just like an ear ring and I had to make my self stop lmao before I could cut the hook.

I had a fishing buddy that lost eye sight in one eye due to a similar accident. We were salmon fishing on a small stream in ALaska when a fly fisherman came back and go thim in the eye. We all have accidents happen, but that guy was a jerk, just cut hi sline and walked away. Didn't even stop to see if he was alright.

That is deffinetly dedication. Was fishing with a couple of friends in Wisconsin years ago as a teenager. My buddy out of the two said, watch out when you casting seeing as there are three of us in the boat. Then zoom, first cast by my bud and whack, got me right under the jaw bone. Just had to cut the eye off the hook and push it on through. I think it hurt more trying to cut the eye off with a pair of pliers than any of the rest. We fished all weekend though and it healed fine. Wish I had saved the hook, but figured it wasn't any good anymore for fishing. Dick

thats a great story........i've seen it the other way around before, i was fishing a small river one time, when these two guys were on the opposite side of the bank........well about 10 minutes after they arrived I just heard the one guy cussing and yelling at his buddy....next thing I see they're leaving......as the walk over the bridge i notice the guys face has a red streak going down it and he was dripping blood........it was nice to see in your pics that you were still smiling , and it surely did not ruin your day......just shows you how different people take different situations....

T.H., Great post, with pics even! Glad it wasn't anything more serious. I did see a guy get hooked in the neck with a giant jig once at the dam on J. Percy Priest in Nashville. Some were catching wipers longer than my leg, but I think this guy was the biggest catch of the day.

yupper i had this happen to me

new years eve a few years back my buddy and i were bank fishing at a wing dam for walleye with hj-14 rapala's

he had just caught a fish so i went back up the bank a couple feet to bend down and tie on a different one that seemed to be working for him .. all of a sudden it felt like someone threw a rock and hit me in the back of the head .. next thing i know i'm laying on the ground and he's asking me if i'm ok .. i reached to the back of my head only to find a rapala husky jerk had attatched itself and my hat to my head .. he cut off most of my hat and we tried but couldn't get it out

it didn't really hurt all that bad (maybe cause it was so cold and from shock) but we continued to fish for a few more hours .. then pain gradually got worse and i had to go to the emergency room .. got quite a few odd looks having a large rapala hanging off the back of my head with a piece of hat in between it and my head

they had to numb my skull and cut it out .. not a very pleasant experience and i hope it never happens again!
