Did anybody have any luck on the Ohio this weekend? I'm hoping to hit it hard this coming Saturday, haven't fished it in almost a month. I don't know for sure, but I'd say head to deep water for blues with this heatwave we're having. Am I right?

Billy, I would definetly try the deeper water for blues. Also suspended a few baits wouldn't be out of the question. I got a few catfish Saturday, but they were all flatheads and channels and nothing over ten pounds. The skips are running the banks hard in the AM and PM. Vern

I am thinking of heading to the Evansville area to fish the Ohio. Any advice on baits this time of year? How hard is it to get skipjack?

Dieter, the skipjack are pretty much on right now. On occassion we will have an off day for them, but mostly they are obtainable. Also the fishing is fairly slow all over the river from the lower to upper pools. If we can get some significant rainfall that will raise the river considerably the fishing should open up. Vern

    Did somebody say skipjack?

I am new to the area (FT Knox) and would like to know where to find skips. I was out this morning on the Ohio near Brandenburg but couldn't find anything except 3" shad. Fished for 3 hours and only caught 1 small channel.

If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it!

Sam, the best places to get skipjack are at the dams or at a hot water discharge. Also any place with heavy current like where a drainage pipe that is flowing heavy comes into the river. Vern

    Steve,
All I can say that it is very shallow on the Indiana side near Vevay. Its almost impossible to launch a boat from the local ramp there. Tried to launch my boat there once, had a four wheels of my truck in the water with the boat still on the trailer.

I fished yesterday morning into the afternoon..We ended up with 2 blues, and 2 flatheads. One of the blues went about 20 pounds, but we were getting a lot of light "tap tap" bits..Didnt seem like they wanted to take it..

when i start getting taps like that i tend to try and move it very slowly about a couple of inches ... acts like the bait is trying to get away and have had some success doing it ... when they go after it with this technique ...they dont look back when they bite ...its all force.
