Yesterday I went out to the lake behind my house with my ultralight to catch some bluegills for bait. I seen something chasing them lately (bass). First cast, the bobber went down and I set the hook, I soon found out it wasnt a small bluegill. It took of for the dock and cover right next to where I casted. I turned it very carefully with my ultralight and got it to shore, my dad had to go get the big net . It was a blue cat of 6 pounds, it fought real good on the UL. After I caught a few bluegills on the bobber rig (I was using 1" foodsource maggots), I switched to a spinner. Then I ended up snagging a shad! Here are a few pics. I released the cat, as well as the shad (yea i actually did that), I didnt have too much time to be fishing last night. This is the second nice cat ive hooked on an ultralight this year. The first one was 10 pounds but it straightened my hook :eek:oooh:.

Thanks for sharing. BTW, some folks consider shad to be a good bait fish.

Its fun catching big fish on an ultralight. I had a fish spool me once using one with a roostertail never got to see what it was just kept ripping line off.

That had to be great fun!
My biggest cat on an ultra light is 5 lbs,
biggest bass at 5 lbs and biggest carp
    at about 10 lbs.
That one took me at least an hour to get in and I was fishing on a swimming mat. It must have been a sight.

Congrats on getting that in from shore!
