Took a trip to Alum Creek yesterday, wanted to get the boat out before the water gets too low. Arrived at Howard Rd. boat ramp at about 1:00 pm. Appeared to be many boats on the water judging by the amount of empty trailers in the parking lot. To say they've lowered the water level would be an understatement. After getting the boat off the trailer - and parking the vehicle I motored away from the ramp which was only 2.9' deep. Headed out to around 8' which now is the depth of the main channel directly out from the ramp and started casting for shad. Got about 20 or so nice ones in a short time. Moved on looking for deeper water , ended up south of 36 in about 22'. Anchored in 16' which was about 30 foot from the shoreline casting to the 20' or so depths. Caught 8 cats total. Just prior to it getting dark I went ashore and did some bank fishing still casting to the general direction I had been fishing all day. Caught a nice one from the bank after dark - 10 pound 15oz. Was a good end to a nice day on the water. For those of you using Howard Rd ramp I would guess after today they will have the barricades in place. It was sitting there yesterday ready to be put in place.
