I caught an albino blue catfish yesterday out of the Missouri river. It was only about a pound or so, but I was surprised to see it had survived to that size. I also saw that thread awhile ago about the 81 pound albino cat coming out of the Missouri...so it got me wondering if this is fairly common? I wish I had my camera out to take a photo of him, but I didn't have it on me at the time.

I myself don't think they are that common. They should live just as long as any other blue. I think there are just more people targeting catfish now then there has ever been, so maybe that is why we are seeing more of them being caught. Just my thoughts.

My thinking was that it's bright, abnormal coloration would make it more susceptible to predators, so it's odds of surviving long wouldn't be too good. Maybe in a muddy river like the Missouri, it has a better chance of survival than something like an albino mouse in the wild.

I think there are enough cameras out there that we'll see a lot more pics
of albinos and really lite colored cats since folks think they're notable and
cool. I don't think the rate of the mutation will change much, its just we've
got more and better data. I'm still looking for my really outstanding cat
to show off to other cat fanciers. Just hope its not too different or
they'll think I painted up a sock puppet to get the attention I crave!

I caught an albino channel 2 years ago, small about a pound. Looked like a plucked chicken.
