    Dear Catfishermen,

Brandon Price (Tenntarp) and I just got back from the 3rd and last Alabama Conservation Advisory Board meeting of the year. As most of you are aware, several of us have been working hard the last 6 months to get the Board to create new legislation to eliminate the transfer and sale of Alabama trophy fish to northern payponds and the useless slaying of these fish. Well our voices were finally heard and the Board made a motion and approved new trophy catfish regulations.

The new law limits the possession of one catfish over 34" per person and disallows the transport of live catfish across Alabama state lines.

The new law will take effect 30-45 days from now. As with any new regulation there is a "cooling off period" in which opponents of the new regs have the opportunity to take legal action. During this time though, the new law is signed and DCNR officers hand out warnings to violators and advertise the changes to the general public. Once the 30-45 days is up the laws is "official in the books" and tickets can be issued. Hopefully around the beginning of July the new law will be taking full effect.

I would like to thank everyone for your efforts, your signatures, e-mails, and information all which were invaluable in getting these regulations passed.

    Thank you very much,
    Allen Neuschwander
