    of those who just got a boat :smile2: I've had 3 boats.....been divorced 3 times.....hmmmmmm  ....lol

Dad had an old (73) 16' Hustler he wanted me to fix-up & we'd sell it & split the money. He was already into it too deep, and it really isn't worth putting the money into, but I am gonna keep it because it was his. He's in his mid 80's and there isn't anything he still can't do. It'll be nice to take him out fishing in this boat in a month or so, but he has another boat also we'll go out in sometimes.

I spent the other day stripping it the rest of the way down, dad had already replaced the bulkheads in it, and I just got them glassed-in today. I'm leaving the bottom the same color (because he'd already painted it), but painting the top battleship grey, and it'll be fully carpeted inside (grey also).

It has an old 45 HP Chrysler, that he said will crank, but won't fire.....but I haven't gotten to that point yet, so I'll probably be over in the motor-help forum before long! Also has on older Motor Guide foot-op trolling motor (that I haven't even tried yet), but I want to find a newer one with alittle more push.

It needs all the little stuff....lights, anchors, saftey stuff, batteries, tiedowns, decent trailer tires....but I should have it nearly finished in a few weeks. Haven't found the front seat yet.....lol, I razzed him pretty good the other day.....took us over an hour to "uncover" the boat enough to get it out of his garage  ....but he took it pretty well.

Been working on the boat the past couple days...new nav lights, cleats, fire extinguisher, battery, anchors, trailer winch, some wiring, paint & carpet, made a big difference in the looks  . Got 1 more livewell & lid to carpet (ran-out), mount 2 seats, pick-up some new accessory switches, fishfinder, make & add some rodholders...and what-ever other goodies I can think to add. The "before" pics are in my 1st post. Soon I'll get to looking into the motor to see why it won't fire. I'll be looking forward to getting it in the water!

Looking good, trapper. one question. The paint, what do you use and do you have to spray it on or can it be brushed? I've been thinking about a fixer-up but can't make up my mind. I need an aluminum boat. When I bought my current boat, a SeaPro 18' I thought I'd be going down to the coast more often.

Thanks all! The paint is made by Rustoleum, but it is a boat paint. I got it at the local Menards (home improvement center). They have 2 different types, 1 for above water (what I used, because I only painted from the molding up) I think around $12 a quart, and 1 for below the waterline, that's about $35 a quart. It is a brush-on application, and actually looks better the more it dries. You aren't going to get a perfect finish with it, but I was more than pleased with the results, just use a "good" brush (not a $1 cheapie). It only took alittle over 1 quart, and that was 2 coats.

I think it can be reduced & sprayed though. If anyone needs to know, let me know & I'll get out a can & look.

    Thanks again!
