I would love to hear all about your Penns, line, rods and such.I have a Penn 345 GTI that I hope to see used by my son or grandson in fresh, salt and brackish tide water. It is spooled with 600 yards of BP's 30 lb.Excel mono.It is mounted on a 7 ft.Daiwa Beef Stick MH 15-50 lb.rod.I don;t have any abu's.peewee-williams

I never had an Abu but I've got a 209 Penn that I've had so long that I paid $15.00 for it new at a baitshop(no such thing as Walmart back then)and I wouldn't trade it for any Abu new or old.

They are both very good reels, I have a penn 309 and it's like a crane, built like a tank. I do believe that the abu reels will cast better but you can't go wrong with either of them.

Overall Penn is my favorite reel, they are definitely much more tough then an Abu, but I like them both.

I Have Both But I Would Say That I Like My Abu's Alot Better Simply Because They Cast Alot Better And Are Alot Smoother.

I have both and many other brands, my 209 cast as good as my new 7000 abu, neither which cast as good as the 5 tidewaters I have, but when the going get tough, it's the 209 Penn that comes out first. I'm talking about log jam or brush pile fishing, the really tought stuff, they will all do a great job but you must use what your contfortable with.

I don't think a Penn is a bad real especially for the money, but I really prefer my Abu's.
