No need to modify...they work great right out of the box.

They do work good out of the box but you can make them better. I plan on working on my C3's to make them exactly the way I want.

I voted Customize only because I sometimes change handles and may convert a 5601 to a clicker. I may not be able to when I planned because I neglected to think about the reel being lefthand when I got the clicker parts on Ebay. Have to see when they come..
I was thinking of upgrading bearings, drag, and double levelwing bearing until I figure the cost. Not worth it. Maybe the drags though?

    Iagree with the rest,
I have 4 CL's and ,2 REVO's I did update the drag system on one of the CL's,to the Carbon matrix, other than that they or just like out of the box,
    work great,
They cast great, if I do have an over run or back lash, it is my fault, not the reel.

That's all we use in the lake a standard reel works fine, below the dam upgrades to the levelwind, spool bearings and drag system are needed for stripers.

I still use mine right out of the box and never had a problem. That next PB may prove me wrong.

I have a 6500C Green Catfish and a 6500CP Catfish Pro Rocket, I love them both but I wish both were the 6500CP Pro, it is loaded from the factory and I feel built for Catfishin. I have them both on Ugly Stik Catfish rods.

I voted customize As I add an ABU power handle to the reels I just love the way they feel an it is so much easier to reel faster to keep from getting snags because you can pull it up off the bottom faster. IMO

there really isnt a differnce between the two beside that the pro rocket has dual casting controls, they both have power handles, bothe have the 5.3:1 gear ratio both have upgraded carbon drags, both hold the same line capacity and ofcourse the differnt colors oh and both are suposdedly made in sweden

I'm kinda new to flathead fishing,,I do have four 6500c's on ugly stick catfish rods,,,wondering how much of what weight line to wind on. Now have 110 yds. 30 # big game mono. Haven't really hung intoa really big cat yet PB is a 19 lb. channel. Except for a 35 # blue I caught in Tenn.

On my older reels (6500 & 7000) I did upgrade the drag washers and replaced the bearings in a couple of them. Other than that I fish them right out of the box, hard to beat Abu baitcasters. Easy to get parts and do the upgrades if you want to. I have alot of the 6500 reels, from the chrome rocket to the c3.

If you search Google, for Abu upgrades, your fine sites, for the parts.
I bought mine 6500c3 back in Dec. 08, so far I like how they cast, I have been amazed what I have pulled in from the river....junk
    (Not a big fish:embarassed:)
Thanks for the input, I saw where these can be upgraded. Just did not know why or if I should.
