i have a 6600 d5 with the mag brake. i love it . im not sure how close they are. mine had the fast release thumb bar and its gold. retails at wal-mart for $99.83. i got it last fall on clearence for $59.
They are the same reel, just different spool widths. The 6600 is wider...maybe better for catfishing, easier to to dig out backlashes. I've the 6600 and used it only one time. It works fine. Got a good deal on it...$52. It was a display case model, but had only been out a few days...no box.

i have taken mine apart. lots of plastic. 
no problems this season though. i love the smoothness and the quick release bar. also plastic. just had it apart cleaning it out. got a bit of sand on her camping this weekend. also like the clicker. its on the same side as the handle. can be flicked on with one hand. the thing casts a mile.
