I got a used Abut Garcia 5000 reel yesterday, and my first impression was that it is a small reel. If I'm not mistaken, it will accommodate approximately 100 yards of 20# monofilament. This should be fine for the bank fishing I do.

The thing that impressed me, however, was the spool braking system. I'm used to using a old-fashioned baitcaster, which requires the use of an intelligent thumb to prevent birdsnesting. When I set the spool tension as directed in another post here (sorry, I haven't been able to locate that again), I found I only needed the thumb to keep the line still while casting.

I'm looking forward to trying out the reel after the rockfish season begins.

Congrats  Abu reels are just easy to cast with their centrifugal brakes.

Congrats on the new reel. Abu Garcia's are great bank fishing reels.
