Just bought a 7000c Syncro, Swede & bearing, foot is stamped 89-0-91-92.
Is this the years they were made?,
The schematics, show, same, pinon and main gear as reg. 7000 6940 &6947.
is that the 4:1 or 5:1 ratio.
Also the drag is in front of handle instead of behind. is a good system,
    Any input is appreciated
    Thanks
    Jim

Hi, Jim. Yes. Mid-life Abus are stamped with the design year on the bottom. Ergo: a 6500C3 stamped 99-10, was October of '99, remaining in production until the next revision. Around this time, Abu changed the serial number format, to a string of different identifiers.

You reel would be design year 89, and still in produciton in 91/92.

It's best to set the drag in the soft position. (Handle reverse cranked back) Test by going to hard, (handle full forward) and pulling out some line. Then go back to soft, and note that the drag's been reduced by about half.
Do this until you are pleased with the drag setting for that pound test, and that day.

That's the draw card to the syncro... strong drag till you bring the catch close in, then a quick reversal of the crank to soften drag, should your catch flee after seeing you or the boat.

If the reel has some mileage on it, you should check drag **before you angle**, as there is an issue with well-used syncros. Now and then, the drag freezes in either on or off position, and needs work-arounds to correct.

    Hope this helps. Best, KD

Oops....forgot about the gear ratio. It's the first generation 4.X-1 speed, the same as all the 7's, up to the gold "big game" high speed, and high speed narrow models.
