The below gas tanks have a fuel gauge sending unit. Its there any problems with using a below gas tank on a pontoon, which normally uses a red above gas tank?

If I use a below tank, does it need to in an enclosed housing?

I don't see where it would make any difference as long as it was secure. Red is just the international color for portable gas containers where green is for diesel and yellow is for kerosene.

I said yellow for kerosene, it might be blue I can't remember, must be having a senior moment.

I understand the color scheme. My question is can one of those below fuel tanks with sending units be used like typical above portable tanks. Will there be a problem with the sun degrading the tank. Does the tank need to be in an enclosure?

Sure you can use it BUT you'll still have to install a fill neck, cap, and air vent.
Being this is the case , yes, it would easier to put the tank in some sort of box just to make the mounting of the componets of the tank easier.
