a DAM question

    I got a question. Why do they call areas above a dam a lake? Then they call it some off the wall name and not the name of the town or the dam.:confused2:

    most natural lakes are named what ever the native americans,indians for you that dont know what a native american is,called it long before white people got here.lakes that furnish water to small towns are normaly named after the town.large lakes that were named after a dam was built are normaly named after the congress man or repisinitive that got it built.as for the rest they mostly get named by the people who lived round the lake fore it was built.
