    hey guys im pullin my hair. i filled up the tank and it only shows a half tank. this is tellin me the sending unit is bad or is it? anyway to tell before i pull the tank and check it

    I'd try to replace the guage first. I had an 83 and I replaced it once. It's an easy fix. You can usually find a whole gauge cluster for about $25 at a junkyard or buy a new one from LMC. Heck I might even have one laying around here! If you have to pull the tank, it might be easier just to take the bed off, then it's right there. Mine had dual tanks, if yours does, fill up the other one and check the guage then. That will tell you if it's a guage or a sending unit.

    You can unhook the sending unit wire at the fuel tank and ground it. With the key on it should go all the way to full. If it goes to full then the unit is bad. If it does not you have a bad gauge or wiring.
