6hp evinrude

    i got a 6hp. Evinrude from my dad when he passed away 2yr. ago.i think it in the 70,s but don't know for sure. Has only been used 2 times that i know of.Has been in his closet I know for 30yr's. Looks brand new under the cowling. I like to know the yr. of it, and the best way to try to get to run.

    It's a 1985 model.

    Check to see it has spark and still good compression.

    Get the water pump impellor changed out, lower unit oil changed, and more than likeley a carb rebuild.

    Make sure the gas tank is clean, or prefferably get a new one.

    Then run the hell out of it

    thanks bob paul i thought it was older than that, but thats good maybe i can get parts for it thank you

    Unlike some other things, you can get parts for outboards way older than that. It's harder with the cast pieces, etc but the wear items aren't hard to find.

    Some parts can be found at NAPA auto parts. If they don't carry them they can usually order them for you.

    O'Reilley's (or at least the one here) has a Sierra marine catalog behind the counter. If you have a part number, they can get most common maintenance items (carb kits, etc) as well.
