I went out with the intention of trying to catch a few golden shiners and then seeing if I could interest a BIG bass or two - like they do in Florida. Couldn't find the first golden shiner today, so I went out and caught 49 bluegill for my bait supply and put them in my bait tank and turned it on to aerate them.

As long as I had live bait, I did my controlled drift for blue cats. Several of the 'gills had jumped out of the bait tank (and overboard, of course), so I closed the lid and went back to the bow. Suddenly there was a screeching sound from the back of the boat. NOW WHAT????? Bait tank pump going bad? Holy moly! The rod in the back of the boat was screaming - I had the clicker on and the spool free, and hadn't thought a thing about the rear rod! I dropped the rod I was holding in a holder and about fell overboard trying to get to the back rod with all my junk on the floor. Engaged the reel and the fight was on! A beautiful 37 pound blue cat!

Needless to say, that kept me on the water and VERY interested, making my controlled drifts. More live bluegills were the bait of choice today, and I landed 5 more blues, smallest 8 lbs, with a 23 and a huge 68 to end the day with. It was HOT, little wind, little flow, I drank 7 drinks and never peed, and thought I'd pass out after wrestling with that 68 to try to get a nice pic. I had to lift the stupid thing 4 times before it held still for a pic!

I got home much later than usual, and my wife had the nerve to say she was worried that something might have happened to my boat. Where does she get these ideas????????

Eric, Boy what a beautiful fish. Next time you are running late you ought to have your boat call home so your wife doesn't worry.:smile2:
