Found this one on the net, this absolutely blew my mind when I saw this.

Bluegill - Phil Conyers of Madisonville, KY caught this huge 5 lbs. 3 oz. on a strip mine lake in Hopkins County in 1980.

If it's truly 5lb. then I think that is a world record for bluegill. Of course, I guess that might be amongst the many records broken recently. I thought the world record was a little over 4lbs, but my source is really old. Nice fish!

I am looking on-line right now and there are so many different bluegill's.

Here is one I found of a redear

The all-tackle world record redear sunfish was caught by Amos M. Gayfrom in 1998. The massive panfish was caught in the Santee Cooper Diversional Canal, South Carolina USA, and weighed 5 pounds, 7.5 ounces.

Ok here I think is the record Bluegill

World record Bluegill! - 5lbs 7ozsCaught by Amos Gray in 1998, somewhere in SC

So far this all I can find hope this helps:smile2:

Definitely not your average catch. Blue gills are fun to catch the way they fight, I bet at 5# and the size of that body it put up a really nice fight.
