My fishing partner and I were pre-fishing for a tournament last week and I ended up catching my second biggest catfish. We had a great night of fishing with a total weight of around 200 lbs and 150 or so in 5 fish. Things were a little different come tournament time but we still had a blast. That night when we caught the big one the wind was out of the south and the bite was very slow. A front was moving through and as soon as the wind switched to the north the poles started twitching. They were hitting the baits light so we switched to octopus style hooks and started ripping lips. This fish bit like a 2 lb fish but it didn't take long to figure out that he was a good one when I went to set the hook and he jerked back. He helped me out quite a bit by swimming upstream towards the boat and after a 5 min tug of war boat side, Slipknot (my fishing partner) did a great job of getting him in the net on the first time he came up. The fish weighed 59.6 lbs and after a couple of pictures we sent him back with a pat on the head and talk of making him famous if he came back to that spot to feed on Saturday night. He didn't hold up his end of the deal but I guess he will always be out there for the next one.
