my 50 hp merc. has sat for two years, but two years ago I replaced the pump vane and housing.... think the vane is still good after being dry for two years?

Also, I have both the oil drian plugs out of the lower unit.... and I forgot.... does the long one go on the top or bottom? lol.... thanks!

I would drop the lower unit and see if the impeller still flexed good. The long plug goes in the bottom hole.

was gonna say the bottem cause i believe it has the magnet on it to collect any metal shavings on it. could be be wrong though.

bill there are those seal softners out there that work to help with the pump situation. and yes the magnet always goes to the bottom . to collect any debre. i used either lucas gear oil in mine or royal purple they cost more but are night and day different . they both stick to the gears and wont leak as easy as standard hope this helps ya bud
