I talked to a johnson outboard specialist and he said over 50 or 60# is ideal but the most important part with the johnsons is that there within 10% of eachother he said not so much on how many #'s but more on how close the cylinders are but your motor is in sweet shape with 110# in both and like he said THATS GOOD ON ANY MOTOR!

You mean to tell me a Johnson motor tech expert he calls himself said anything over 60 is idea. I dam sure don't won't him working on anything I have. As for the 10 percent tell him to go back to school it says in every Manuel that within 15 pounds of each other and any thing over 80 in smaller h/p. If you run bigger h/p then it needs to be a bigger number to keep it from being a bear to start. I enjoy reading other peoples advice but when a tech tells you this and you haven't tried it your self I would do a little research before I go to pasting it all over some where some one can take misled advice and ruien a good motor.

Well first the question was what should it be I asked? He responded the older johnsons 1988 will be idealy over 50 to 60# to be running decent but he said more important is that there within 10%...Do all outboards have the same compression? No thats right they dont...And you tell me how this information can ruin his motor? I never instructed him to do anything did I...I just posted from a buddy who is a marine mechanic and is very knowledgable on johnsons...Now if you say this is bad information like im spreading it on purposes I was just browsing through saw the thread and new I could ask a bud and he would know...I would appreciate you not butting into anything saying im pasting it all over I was merely trying to help.....Also how is this information damaging? We were talking about a specific motor right not all outboards in general

I think that he(BailBonds) was being sarcastic. You need to quit while your ahead. You have already said too much. Take some time to read through the old post and see how this is supposed to work. You arent makin any friends that way.

come on people, quit feeding. bubba has the right idea. he shut up. let the other either go on and make fool of himself/learn how this place runs and become a good member. i know if my temper or stubborness comes up, i won't stop, and maybe he won't. he's a new guy, he'll learn to at least respect the old timers on here.

Gary, as always, your message is one of wisdom!

But, dang...it is so hard not to join in!

However, as a great man once said:

"Always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed. Always aim at purifying your thoughts and everything will be well."

    Mahatma Gandhi
Indian political and spiritual leader (1869 - 1948)

My life would have been so much easier if only I would have learned to follow Gandhi's advice!
