I sure wouldn't of turn it lose before getting it weighed by fish and game, but I don't think it would of counted as a world record being snagged. Thats hard to beleive that someone would turn it lose if they thought it might be a world record.

    "Now that's a Bass"

But I think the guy mess-up when he said that he foul hook the fish.

I heard that they do catch some big Bass from that lake.

I remember reading that Dixon would likely give up the next world record bass. That fish would most certainly have been worth many MILLIONS in cash and endorsements.

However...it doesn't sound to me like he'll be getting certified. But hey...KUDOS to the guy for being honest! AND MOST OF ALL...releasing the fish alive...that will give some other lucky fisherman the opportunity to nail the record in hopefully as honest of a fashion that this guy didn't lay claim to it by lies and deceit. IMO...though...this guy DESERVES the record. I hope he catches it again!

I am sure there is one some where that thinks it can and I would use a 14/0 J style hook. But that is me ...LOL

I myself think its great he got to ceacth a nice big one like that. I know I would love to hook one that big and have the fight of a life time. May have to go down and do some fishing at that lake this summer.

i dont get why it matters if its hooked in the mouth or not, you guys had me thinking he actualy snagged it until i read the story, that happens all the time if you get a bite and set the hook but it misses the fishes mouth and hits elsewhere

That's one sweet fish & had he kept it I believe it should count as a record regardless of how he hooked it, but since it was released before it could be officially weighed in I don't think it should count.

That is just an awesome fish. Hats off to the guy who used CPR. Gives someone else the chance of a lifetime to catch a huge bass.

Well, I'm glad he CPR'ed it. That would have really sucked if he had taken it in for verification and it died, since he wouldn't have gotten the record since it was foul hooked. I mean I'm sure he could have lied, but a fish that big probally got tore up a bit where it got hooked, which I'm sure a conservation officer or who ever verifies those records would have noticed.
