I figured out that I have a seal leaking in my lower unit. I was wondering if this was a job that anyone can fix. I used to work on cars for a living, but I have never taken a lower unit apart. Do you guys recommend taking it to a dealer or should I try to fix it myself?

This would be a good time to get the water pump changed out also.

I'd suggest a dealer do it for you. You'll get the lower uinit pressure tested, new oil, a waterpump, and seals, and you'll have guaranteed work done.

Shouldn't be much more than a two hr job.

If it's only the prop shaft seal that's leaking, it can be done without taking the lower unit off, and you make the decision of changing the water pump or not.

Other than that, you need a manual and metric tools, possibly some special tools for the job too.

Thanks alot Paul. I guess I will have the dealer do it, only thing is though, they can't get to it for another two weeks. This means "No fishing for me" at one of the best times of year.
