The gas gauge reads different everytime I shut it off and then turn it back on. The other day read full and still took thirty buck. Is it the sending unit in the tank or is their some common problem they may have?

Yes the sending unit is in the tank. It is a common problem for them to go bad in most GM's. I'm pretty sure that the sending unit and pump are all one unit in that vehicle. They are pretty spendy, normally in the $300 to $400 price range.

I also have a 2000 model pontiac montana and I have a similar problem. Mine reads full when it is empty and reads about half full when it is full. Sounds confusing but I have got used to it and I just try to keep it full.
