I just bought a boat with 93 40hp oil injected mercury. It's just been completly rebuilt. He told me to only run mercury 2 cycle oil. But I have 1.5 gallons of Johnson/Evinrude oil at home. Will it hurt anything to use this oil up, as apposed to giving it away. Unless yall tell me it will hurt something, I'll probably use it up.

Another question, they said I need to run it under 3000 rpms for 10 hours. For a break in period. Is that right? It just seems like a lot to me. I've done that about 4 hours so far. And it's like pulling teeth. Probably moving a whole 8-10 mph. I wonder if people who buy new boats do that.

Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Yep People do that on a break in period. If that is a new rebuilt power head and is under warranty then by all means use the oil they recommend. If its not warranted then use the omc oil because its TCW-3 certified and won't hurt a thing.
