    Hi Fellas,
This is gonna probably be an easy one for you seasoned outboard specialists.

I was doing the regular maintenance on my merc yesterday; oil change, plugs, lower unit oil, wipe down and clean all components when I noticed something interesting...

There is this plunger rod leading into the carburetor that is bubbling fuel out pretty consistently while running.. Seems to have been a rubber boot around it at one time that has mostly deteriorated...

    * I am attaching a few pictures of this because I am terrible at explaining things like this...

~ It does not seem to be affecting the idle or performance, but I am loosing some fuel...

Do I need to take it to a mechanic or is this something I can fix myself?

Thanks for any help on this...
    ~A

    Here is my next question,

~ I understand it is a good practice to replace the water pump often.
~ I have not done it since I bought the engine...

    * I took a few pictures of what I think is the water pump..
~ Looks easy to replace.. Is this it? Any tips?

    Thanks!

I'll see if I can round up a picture and post it and show you where its at. If it has been awhile I recomend changing out the whole water pump.

What you were taking a picture of is what appears to be the fuel pump.

Are we talking about an impeller kit? Or is there a actual water pump?

    Thanks Fellas,
I will order a new one to see what it is before I go pulling parts off the engine.. It has never been replaced before. So I think it is probably time...

    * Regarding the first question, any info on that? Is that rubber boot something I need to replace. Or does the fuel squirting out indicate a bigger problem?

~ Sorry for all the questions, I am just hesitant about going to a marine mechanic and having them charge me for something I can easily do myself..

    Thanks~

I am going to need the serial number to make sure we are on the same page here.
This is a two stroke? right!!!

The water pump consists of, Gaskets, wear plate , cup and liner if used and some of them have seals also.

    Sir,
The engine is a 4 stroke...
    * I will get the serial number over to you soon.
    Thanks!
