I don't know if anyone has seen this, but in the March 21,07 Owatta paper is a picture of Brett arsen of Shabbona. Holding a new Shabbona Lake record Crappie he caght on March 9. It weighted 2.8 pounds and was 17 inches long.

    WOW, a lot of Crappie.

The picture is from the newspaper and I couldn't get it resized right, but I wanted to share...

I have never caught many good size catfish out of that lake, but it produces some great Crappie and eye's. Going to have to try it again.

I often fish for crappie until I find them and then I switch or at least put out a catfish pole. Where there are crappie, there is usually a catfish or 2.

Shabbona is a 315 acre impoundment that has produced 3 state record muskies in a row. Additionally, each year it produces several large bass, walleye, crappie, and catfish. Not only large size, but good numbers. Considering the small size and the heavy fishing pressure the lake gets, only 70 miles from Chicago, it is certainly one of the Illinois DNR success stories. If you’re in the area give this lake a try, it’s worth the time.

Dave, I haven't ever tried that, its kind of a mind set thing I guess, when I fish for Crappie thats the only thing I want. Next time I'm going to put a catfish pole out. Thanks.:smile2:
